Clarify Your Dream to Make It a Goal
By Delano Garner
Whether you’re just starting your career or you're on the eve of retirement, the first step to pursuing your dream is to clarify it on paper. Dreams are a dime a dozen, and it's easy to come up with 1,000 excuses as to why they won’t work – someone else has already tried it, someone else can do it better, it will take too much time, it’s too hard. Writing down your dream using clear language gives it form. It becomes an idea – an idea that can become a goal.
There are times when all I can do is make a list of what to do tomorrow. That’s my whole day. There are other days when I can get two weeks worth of work done in a few hours. Your energy and your available time to work toward your goal will ebb and flow, but by writing down your dream, you can make incremental and meaningful steps toward it.
